Industrial Ethernet - Testing Industrial Ethernet Cabling with the DSX CableAnalyzer

Interactive Guide: Testing Industrial Ethernet Cabling with the DSX CableAnalyzer

Interactive Guide

This interactive guide will help you to determine how to set-up your DSX CableAnalyzer for the Industrial Ethernet cable testing you want to perform. Follow the steps below to configure your tester for your specific testing requirements.

Step 1: Determine Your Testing Requirement

Consider the type of Industrial Ethernet cabling you need to test. Different protocols and cable types require different test configurations:

  • PROFINET — Uses Cat 5e or Cat 6A cabling with RJ-45 or M12 connectors
  • EtherNet/IP — Typically uses Cat 5e or Cat 6 with RJ-45 connectors
  • EtherCAT — Uses Cat 5e cabling with RJ-45 or M12-D connectors
  • Modbus-TCP — Uses Cat 5e with RJ-45 connectors

Step 2: Select the Correct Test Limit

The DSX CableAnalyzer supports multiple test limits for Industrial Ethernet:

  • TIA 1005 — For industrial cabling environments with MICE E1, E2, or E3 levels
  • ISO/IEC 11801 — International standard for structured cabling
  • IEC 61918 — Industrial communication networks installation standard

Step 3: Configure Your Adapter

Select the appropriate adapter for your connector type:

  • DSX-PLA004 — M12-D adapter for 2-pair Industrial Ethernet
  • DSX-PLA004X — M12-X adapter for 4-pair Industrial Ethernet
  • Standard RJ-45 — built-in for 8-pin modular connections
